townhouse, two garages on the ground floor, two baths. It comes back as a plan with every room named, sized and placed.

Drop a DXF

A vector CAD plan becomes walls. Units
come off the drawing's own header, wall layers are picked out of the rest, and a double-line wall collapses to one centreline.

DXF

What comes back from a description is a layout, not walls: one footprint, the storeys stacked on it, and every room named, typed, sized, placed and told which side of the building it faces. The walls and the openings are worked out from that in your browser, the same way every time, which is why the plan arrives square and closed rather than nearly closed. Footprints are rectangular and stacked, so an L-shaped building is a job for one of the drawing paths below. What a DXF cannot bring with it: curved walls, and the insides of blocks, which are deliberately left alone rather than turned into walls.

1 The plan stands up in front of you Ghost walls extrude over a grid one storey at a time, in the order the building would go up: the floor slab, then its walls, then its doors and windows, then the roof.
2 You commit Nothing is written until you say so. Up to that point it is a preview you can throw away, reword and generate again before anything is authored.
3 A real model is authored, then read back Storeys first, then each floor's walls, slab and room one element at a time, then a pitched roof over the top storey, then the doors and windows. An opening that will not fit its wall is counted back to you rather than quietly dropped. What comes out is saved as a twin at its own address and opens there — the same address every other path lands at.
